Today, our association is entering a new phase. From now forth, HackYourPhD becomes HackYourResearch (HYR).

Since our first steps seven years ago, the world of research has evolved. The planet situation has changed and so have we. Open science has been institutionalised. Within the Association, we have seen significant achievements with strategic choices and structural changes.. But it also leads to a standardization of practices with, in the process, a loss and lapse of attention to what open science reflected at its beginnings.
The institutional and political frameworks now put less emphasis on the questions of co-construction of knowledge, justice (cognitive / epistemic), commons, ethics and overall critical reflection on the place of science in society. For the association, this makes it even more essential for us to re-examine the core of our commitment and to bring a complementary perspective and activities to what “national open science” is currently implementing.
Since 2013, among our members, some have obtained their PhD, pursuing academic career or by choosing to distance themselves from it. Others have joined us without any vocation to pursue a PhD, but by wishing to consolidate the opening of knowledge to other spheres in thoughtful and deliberate ways. Our online commmunity — you ! — never ceased to grow.
Today, our association is entering a new phase. From now forth, HackYourPhD becomes HackYourResearch (HYR). We hereby renew our call to gather people, in a wider extent than a professional researcher position. People with various profiles curious to wonder about research (regarding its approach, framework, status, governance) and hack it (tinker, experiment) are welcomed. It is all about keeping open the field of possibilities for sciences. So that is will be understood and experienced daily as a shifting and as a moving field of exploration, understanding and collective attention for the human being, the planet and life.
